Culture Business Conference 2013
Participating as speaker at the third edition of Culture Business, Institut du monde Arabe, Paris. The conference for professionnels in arts and culture aims to decode the latest trends and share new strategies that will boost the development of international cultural organisations all over the world. For this forthcoming edition, the theme "Innovation and Risk Taking" looks specifically at the inventive ways in which cultural entrepreneurs pushes boundaries to propel the industry forwards. Camelia Esmaili will speak on a panel alongside Marc Sands, director of media and audiences at Tate, Cécile Fakhoury, founding director of Galerie Cécile Fakhoury in the Ivory Coast, Patricia Houg, director of La Sucrière in Lyon, and Catherine Ferrar from Louvre Lens. The group will focus on questions of making and transforming cultural environments, from where to construct a new site, to the reinvention of existing ones and how we can extend those models to the digital world. Largest Site-Specific Artwork Commission in the UAE
Monumental art installation commissioned to Iraqi-born artist Halim Al Karim. The project was commissioned to L'Atelier Camelia by the Dubai Duty Free for the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, near the Dubai airport. At 15 metres tall by 5 metres wide, this monumental work is officially the largest site-specific art installation in the UAE. Born in 1968, Al Karim lives and works between Denver, USA, and Dubai, UAE. Inspired by the principles of mysticism, his practise focuses on the idea of uniting the hidden and the revealed, light and darkness, the material and the ephemeral.
IDCA 2012 Innovation Award
As a member of the jury for the third edition of the International Design & Communication Awards (IDCA), New York awarding MoMA's iPhone App. The second place award went to Paddle 8 by Tender Creative - a new web portal for galleries. Celebrating excellent design and communication initiatives across the art world, the IDCA awards assess communications, design and branding strategies within the arts and museum sphere.
